Winter Vacation Ideas for the Family

If it’s time to get away from it all, here are ways to embrace the cold, escape the cold, and have a great family vacation this winter.

Embrace the Cold

If your family loves all the ambiance that winter brings then a ski trip can be a great way to bond and enjoy the winter weather. Your active ones can enjoy all the athleticism and outdoor fun of hitting the slopes and the rest can enjoy warm cocoa by a cozy fire with board games and other indoor fun at the lodge. Vermont, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Utah have some of the best ski lodges for families in the US, complete with kid-friendly activities like bouncy castles, s’more making, and sledding.

Even if your family does not plan to ski, a winter lodge can be a good idea. You can be close to local shopping centers and points of interest, enjoy convenient dining in their in-house restaurant, or take a horse drawn sleigh ride through a maze of Christmas lights.

Escape the Cold

If your family wants to get away from the cold there are lots of warm weather destinations that are great to visit this time of year. A cruise can be an all inclusive way to have adventure, fun, and sun. Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival were ranked as the top 3 cruise lines for families in 2019 by U.S. News.

If you don’t want to board a ship with your crew there are many places in the US where you can get away from the colder winter weather. California, Florida, and the southern coasts like Texas and Georgia have sandy beaches, warm sun, and plenty of family fun to be had. There is also intracoastal real estate in Palm Beach, FL up for sale if you want to make your winter vacation an annual tradition and save money in the long run.

Staycations

If your budget is limited but you still want to spend time as a family, you can have a winter staycation instead. Find a local point of interest that is within driving distance for a day of fun. If you can’t afford a hotel you can do something special at home like make a fort or set up a tent in the living room to recreate a camping feel. Making snowmen in the backyard, baking cookies, and driving around or walking through a Christmas light display add to the fun.

Whether you invest in intracoastal real estate Palm Beach or make a pillow fort in the living room, spending quality time together as a family will be the most important aspect of your winter vacation this year.
